Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames School Meal Services
KEG saves Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames School Meal Services £10,000
With a wide variation in the level of equipment in the school kitchens of the Royal Borough of Kingston Upon Thames School, the client urgently needed an up to date condition survey and asset register to determine their future strategy for providing school meals.
Background
The Borough was considering handing over the provision of school catering to individual schools. For this to be a success each school had to have an adequately equipped kitchen for the number of meals required. When they engaged KEG they had some kitchens that were over-specified in terms of the capacity of catering equipment versus the number of meals produced. They also had many schools with outdated equipment, which were struggling to deliver services.
KEG was asked to provide a register of assets and a condition survey for all the school kitchens within the Borough to enable the Authority to make an informed decision about the provision of school meals.
KEG conducted a condition survey for every school kitchen throughout the Borough and were able to clearly identify which pieces of equipment were surplus to requirement, the appliances that were fit for purpose and those which needed replacing. A full asset register of catering equipment across the estate was compiled from the data collated during the site surveys.
This enabled KEG to recommend the relocation of equipment from kitchens that were over-specified in terms of meals provided, to those kitchens, which needed updating.
Not having to replace failing and outdated equipment had an immediate saving for the client of £10,000.
KEG Catering provided:
- Central asset register of the catering equipment
- Identification of equipment surplus to requirements
- Recommendations for the relocation of equipment from over specified kitchens to those needing updating
